Mixing

We shape your recordings into one coherent record: dynamics, stereo image and detail that hold up on speakers, earbuds and car systems — without tricks that fight the song.

Engineer mixing at console with monitors in evening light

Mixing at Mushrumpmirami is for artists and producers who have multitracks or a session but want fresh ears and a treated 22 m² control room in Amsterdam. Since 2019 we have mixed singles, EPs and one-off collabs from this desk.

You deliver aligned stems using our stem delivery guide; we confirm references, loudness targets and file formats before the clock runs. Attended mixing at €88 per hour is available if you want to ride faders yourself with guidance.

Process

  1. 01

    Stem intake

You upload files; we verify sync, naming and headroom. Missing info is cleared before billable work starts.

  2. 02

    First mix

Levels, EQ, compression, panning, spatial effects and rough automation for structure.

  3. 03

    Notes

You receive a mixdown; up to 2 rounds address your consolidated feedback.

  4. 04

    Print

Final stereo WAV (and instrumental on request) ready for mastering or release.

When to mix outside your room

Home setups are capable, but rooms and monitors differ. If kicks feel random between speakers, vocals stay brittle, or phone playback collapses, an external mix here is often the fastest reset. Teams without a dedicated mixer also book per song or EP package.

Tracked vocals with us? The engineer already knows how those takes were captured — that saves placement time in the beat.

What we need from you

Send 24- or 32-bit WAV stems from the same start point, no limiter on the mix bus. Include a rough mix plus BPM, key and two reference tracks for direction (not to clone). Our stem guide covers folders and naming.

  • Vocal stems with ad-libs separate
  • Drums split where possible
  • Instrument subgroups
  • Tempo map if you used vari-speed

Unclear files? Email [email protected] before paying — fixing prep beats burning hourly time.

How we work in the room

We gain-stage and subtract before stacking effects. Drum parallel compression, vocal delays and sidechain choices follow genre — hip-hop and folk ask for different moves — but we avoid preset chains that make every song identical.

At €88 per hour you sit at the desk: you move faders, we guard technical and acoustic pitfalls. Great for learning; less ideal if you want a finished mix while you are offline.

Revisions, timing and comms

Each quote includes 2 revision rounds per song or EP. One email per round keeps the process fair. Turnaround depends on queue and complexity; with complete stems we usually quote a few business days after intake.

We aim to reply within 1 business day on mix questions. Rush may be possible for a fee — ask via contact.

Deliverables and exclusions

You get at least a 24/48 stereo mix WAV; instrumental or TV mix on request. Mastering is separate (mastering from €78).

Not included: re-recording weak takes, heavy time editing beyond normal vocal comp, sample clearance, distribution, revisions beyond 2 (charged extra), forensic repair of damaged files. We archive 6 months.

After the mix

Approved mixes go to mastering — in-house mastering can sit in the same schedule. Read mastering, rights and delivery if ownership questions linger.

Podcast recording is a different pipeline; spoken edits use Podcast and spoken audio, not per-song mix rates.

Studio location

Weesperzijde 96, 1091 DS Amsterdam. The studio is on Weesperzijde in Amsterdam East. From Amsterdam Amstel station it is about an 8-minute walk along the Amstel. Tram 12 stops nearby; metro lines 51, 53 and 54 serve Amstel. On-street parking is limited; bike racks are right outside the entrance. Hours Mon–Fri 10–22, Sat 11–18 by appointment. Remote upload preferred over surprise disk drops.

Mixing after vocal sessions here? Mention it when booking so we open the right session.

Checking the mix on your devices

Before we call a mix finished, we listen on our main monitors, a second pair and headphones — not because one truth exists, but because listeners will switch devices. We encourage you to do the same on earbuds and a car system if that is where your audience lives.

If something only breaks on phone speakers, tell us in your revision notes with a timestamp. We can often soften harsh sibilance or rebalance low-mid buildup without reopening the entire production. For catalogue-wide consistency across an EP, mention it at intake so level and tone stay related from track one to six.
